New Residential Construction (One & Two Family)

New Construction

The City of Dodgeville only accepts permits for NEW one- and two-family homes after the builder (or owner) has completed the State online permit. The State Online Building Permit System was developed by the DSPS (Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services) to allow municipalities to gain compliance with 2015 Act 211. The owner, builder, or agents shall complete the application form and the State Online Building Permit System will route it to the City of Dodgeville Building Inspector. Permit application data is used for statewide statistics on new one- and two-family dwellings, as well as the local code administration.

After completion of the online form you may submit that printed form and the other paperwork listed below and any other required information to the City Building Inspection Department. If you wish to also request an early start permit, please include the Early Start Application (fillable PDF) form.

  • REScheck Version 2009 IECC

ISSUANCE OF BUILDING PERMIT

After your plans and application have been accepted, the plans will be reviewed for compliance with the code. The code allows the inspector up to 10 working days to review and act on the plans. Incomplete submittals or additional required information will extend this time.

For NEW 1 & 2 family dwellings, you will receive a permit card for posting at the project site along with the Conditions of Approval for the project. The Conditions of Approval is a list of code requirements that applies specifically to your project. It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the code sections listed before you begin construction. The Conditions of Approval are intended to be as complete as possible. However, if an item is not listed, it is not to be implied that your project is exempt from that requirement.

REQUIRED INSPECTIONS
