MEMBERSHIP PROCESS

  • Any person interested in applying for DAAS membership shall be directed to contact a Membership Committee member.
  • Applications for membership will be valid for an eight (8) month period. Any applicant who has not completed membership requirements and been admitted as a probationary member within said eight (8) month period shall be dropped from consideration for membership and his/her application shall lapse.
  • All applicants for membership shall be screened by the Membership Committee. After an applicant has been screened, the membership committee will determine if the applicant is a candidate for a two (2) month ride-along trial period.
    • If a 'ride-along" candidate holds a valid DAAS license or DAAS EMT training license, the membership committee may allow the individual to ride in the back of the ambulance and have patient contact during the two (2) month "ride-along" trial.
    • The membership committee may, with a majority vote of the committee members, waive the two (2) month "ride-along" trial.
    • At the end of the two (2) month "ride-along" trial, the candidate will again meet with the membership committee for evaluation. At this time the membership committee will discuss with the applicant any concerns/issues that have been brought to the attention of the membership committee. The members of the membership committee will then decide to extend the "ride-along" trial, terminate the applicant's involvement with DAAS or bring the member on as a probationary member.
  • The membership committee shall conduct performance reviews/touch base sessions with probationary EMT members upon the member's receipt of EMT Training license, 3 months following the member's receipt of his/her EMT Training License, and again at the end of the one (1) year probationary membership term. At this time, the membership committee shall decide whether to discontinue the probationary member's involvement with DAAS, extend the member's probationary status, or bring the probationary member on as a full member.
  • The membership committee shall conduct performance reviews/touch base sessions with probationary non-EMT members three (3) months after probationary membership has been granted, six (6) months after probationary memberships has been granted, and again at the end of the one(1) year probationary membership term. At this time the membership committee shall decide whether to discontinue the probationary member's involvement with DAAS, extend the members probationary status, or bring the probationary member on as a full member.
  • Forms will be available to all DAAS regular (active) members to provide feedback on the performance of any "ride-along" candidates and probationary members. It is asked that the crew member signing the Ride-A-Long log book fills out a form. These forms must be signed by the DAAS member(s) who submits them in order for information to be considered by the membership committee. The feedback provided on these forms can either be positive or negative, but must be constructive.
  • All EMT members are required to meet the following:
    • Shall be able to lift a minimum of one hundred (100) pounds.
    • Obtain a written statement from the member's physician that the member is in good health and able to perform the requirements of an EMT.
