The Dodgeville Police Department is accepting applications to fill a department vacancy and to establish an eligibility list.  The Police Officer position will be full time with a starting salary between $30.43-32.26/hr (plus shift differential) with excellent benefits including:  health, dental, and life insurance; clothing allowance; deferred compensation; longevity pay; paid holidays (10 regular plus 3 floating); sick leave; vacation; and Wisconsin Retirement Fund. 

The position performs a variety of routine and complex public safety work consisting of preventative patrol, community policing activities, criminal investigations, car crash investigations, enforcement of Federal and State Statutes, enforcement of Municipal Ordinances, first responder responsibilities, traffic control activities, provides emergency response to citizen requests and performs all other police functions within the City of Dodgeville.

Minimum qualifications include:  

  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position
  • Ability to possess a firearm
  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
