Commercial Buildings

For all Commercial Buildings (New, Additions, Alterations, Change of Use, etc.) a Commercial Buildings Application must be completed.

Commercial Building projects in the City of Dodgeville can be confusing, since we have a Design Review Board, that has a formal review process to apply design guidelines for new or remodeled buildings, site protection, landscaping, signage, exterior lighting, etc. Click to view the Design Review Application.

The City also has a Historic District and a Historic Preservation Commission whose purpose and intent are to effect and accomplish the protection, enhancement and perpetuation of such improvements, sites and districts which represent or reflect elements of the City's cultural, social, economic, political and architectural history. Issuance of Building Permit:

In many cases, the State of Wisconsin is going to require State Approval on your construction project whether it be new construction or alterations to an existing building. The City will not issue a permit until the State Approval is completed in those cases.

Inspections

In cases where the State has issued a plan approval the owner or agent needs to call the State and the Dodgeville Building Inspector for Inspections. Since the State has limited staff, they may or may not make the inspection depending on the project and the inspection requested. The City Inspector will make all electrical inspections as well as other inspections before elements are covered.

• The City has adopted the State of Wisconsin Commercial Building Codes.
• The City also is licensed by the State as an Electrical Inspection Agency for fully administering the State Electrical Code.
