Voter Registration Requirements
- You are a U.S. citizen
- You are 18 years old or older on Election Day
- You lived in Dodgeville for at least 28 days prior to Election Day
- You are restricted from voting; if you have:
- Been convicted of a felony and not restored to civil rights
- Been judged incompetent
- Already voted in that election
- Placed a bet or wager on the outcome of the Election
Ways to Register
Anyone wishing to vote in the State of Wisconsin, where they are required to register, has four options to register:
- Online - Register to vote online at MyVote Wisconsin.
- Residents with a valid Wisconsin Driver's License or Photo Identification card with their current Wisconsin address can register online without having to print or mail in any forms. If you need to update your address, you can do this online with the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles. Please see the online voter registration instructions.
- By Mail - Complete an Application for Voter Registration (EL-131).
- Mail applications to the City Clerk's Office
- Mailed registrations must be postmarked no later than the 20th day before the election.
- In Person - Register in the City Clerk’s office up to 5 pm the Friday before the election.
- At the Polling Place on Election Day - If you wish to register to vote at your polling place, you must bring proof of residence.
- Proof of Residence is required for any elector who is registering to vote on Election Day.
What Do I Need to Register?
You must provide a Wisconsin Department-issued driver's license number and proof of residence. If you have not been issued a Wisconsin driver's license, you must provide the last four digits of their Social Security Number or your Wisconsin State ID card number.
Proof of Residence
For purposes of voter registration, the following documents constitute acceptable proof of residence (POR) if it includes the voter’s name and current address, and are any of the following:
- A current and valid (unexpired and not suspended or revoked) Wisconsin driver’s license or identification card.
- Any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit.
- An identification card issued by an employer in the normal course of business and bearing a photo of the card holder, but not including a business card.
- A real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election.
- A university, college or technical college identification card (must include photo) ONLY if the voter provides a fee receipt dated within the last 9 months or the institution provides a certified housing list to the municipal clerk.
- A gas, electric or telephone service statement (utility bill) for the period commencing no earlier than 90 days before Election Day.
- A bank statement.
- A paycheck.
- A check or other document issued by a unit of government.
- An affidavit on public or private social service agency letterhead identifying a homeless voter and describing the individual’s residence for voting purposes.
- A residential lease that is effective on the date of registration (not valid if registering by mail).
